Mercedes-Benz inaugurates Advanced Auto Body Repair Training Centre in Pune

Mercedes-Benz, a popular name in the luxury car segment in India has inaugurated the ‘Advanced Auto Body Repair Training Centre’ in association with Don Bosco ITI, Chinchwad, Pune. The centre aims at developing advanced technical skill set amongst the youth who want to pursue a career in the automotive service industry.


The new Mercedes-Benz Training Centre is aimed at equipping ambitious youngsters with advanced technical skill sets that will enable them to pursue a successful career in the highly competitive automotive service sector. The inauguration of the Advanced Auto Body Repair Centre will also give a significant boost to the demand of highly skilled and technically adept manpower, which can play a crucial role in bringing service excellence to the service sector of the automotive industry.

The centre was jointly inaugurated by Roland Folger, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz India and Fr. Godfrey D’souza, Salesian Provincial, Mumbai - in the presence of Santosh Iyer, Vice President, After-Sales & Retail Training, Mercedes-Benz India and Fr. Corils Gonsalves, Director Don Bosco Private ITI in Chinchwad.

ThyssenKrupp to set up elevator factory in Pune



ThyssenKrupp Elevator (India) announced on Wednesday that it will invest ₹300 crore in a multipurpose manufacturing facility at Chakan near Pune. The facility will be operational by the second quarter of 2017 and will serve the Asian and North African markets.

The company is a part of German engineering giant ThyssenKrupp AG. In India, it has a 6 per cent market share in the ₹8,500 crore elevator manufacturing business.

Increasing demand

Addressing a press conference, Bharat Vishnani, Managing Director of ThyssenKrupp Elevator (India), said that rapid urbanisation has led to massive demand in elevators, especially in residential buildings.

India is also a major regional market and therefore, the company has decided to set up the unit at Pune.

He said the company already has 62 regional offices and a head count of 2,200. Therefore, the upcoming facility will be used for reaching markets in India, Bangladesh and countries in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Vishnani said that after China, India was a promising market with a year-on-year growth of 11 per cent. In BRICS countries, the Indian market was growing the fastest.

The Centre is focused on building 100 Smart Cities, including new housing complexes, airports, malls, railway stations, and harbours, which is a huge opportunity for the company, he said.

Local manufacture

He said the Pune facility will manufacture 95 per cent of the components locally.

The facility’s initial capacity of 6,000 units per year will be extended to 10,000 units per year by FY 2019-20.

In addition, the company will establish a training academy for improving service efficiency in the field.

Peter Allaart, Executive Vice-President of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, said the company has developed a futuristic elevator based on the magnetic levitation technology, which allows the motion of multiple elevators in the same shaft both vertically and horizontally.

This model increases people’s transport capacities and efficiency by up to 50 per cent, he added.

Mercedes Benz to invest Rs 2,000 crore in Pune plant

Mercedes Benz has decided to invest Rs 2,000 crore in upgrading its factory at Chakan in Pune, which the Maharashtra government says is an endorsement of its commitment to the ease of doing business in the state.

The company is planning to invest Rs 2,000 crore over five years in the unit. 



Apurva Chandra, industries secretary, Maharashtra told that the Maharashtra government has received an application from Mercedes Benz, seeking to upgrade its manufacturing capacity in Pune which manufactures luxury cars from 40,000 to 80,000 units per year. This will also help in creating more jobs in the state and it shows the state's commitment to industries is being reciprocated.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who met Roland Folger, managing director and CEO of Mercedes India said that the state will ensure speedy clearance for the company's new unit.

Modi opened GE unit at Chakan, Pune

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the global investors to explore the immense possibilities in ship building, defense and railway sector, assuring 'ease of doing business' and predictability of policies and laws.


Speaking at the inauguration of the multi modal facility of General Electric at Chakan in Pune, Modi said, Ship building industry can create employment in the coastal states. India has immense potential in defense sector to export to the third world countries. We have recently allowed 49 per cent FDI in defense. The railways should also become self sufficient, upgrade, expand and become driving force of the economy.

As John Rice, vice chairman, GE announced to begin work on Phase II of the Chakan plant, Modi said, it will give strength to the ' Make in India' plans of his government.
Modi said that India's talent pool can attract the best global technologies and also investment. "World was surprised to see how our scientists successfully launched Mangalyaan with less than the budget of a bollywood movie," he said, also citing how his government is trying bring predictability and 'ease of doing business' to attract investments.
"We have brought down the number of permissions required to start a business from about 70/80 to about 20/25. We are also trying to bring predictability in our systems, laws and policies," he said.
The Chakan plant is the first of its kind, multi modal plant of GE anywhere in the world, where the same set up will be used to manufacture for different verticals like aviation, energy, health care, oil and gas etc. The company, which has been present in India for more than a century, has invested about $ 120 in Phase I of the aviation certified facility and plans to put in another $60 to $70 for phase II.
Of the total production at the plant, 50 per cent will be exported. " Right now, GE will use the facility for manufacturing oil and gas exploration equipments, wind, aviation and locomotives," said Banamali Agrawala, president and CEO, South East Asia, GE.
